Local man arrested in firearms incident

Wednesday, 27 January 2010

Local police officers supported by officers from Gwent Police Traffic Department stopped a vehicle near Five Acres in the Forest of Dean on Wednesday 20th January, following a report of a woman motorist being tailed through Monmouth by a second vehicle driven by a man with a firearm.
The man was arrested, and a loaded firearm was seized. Peter Slaughter, 48, of Pencraig, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with three offences, including possession of a shotgun with intent to cause unlawful violence. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Thursday 28th January.
In a linked incident, armed police were called to a property in the Wonastow area early on Wednesday, to deal with what was described as a ‘domestic incident’ involving a firearm.
