Council seeks to improve ‘gateway’ to Monmouth
Wednesday, 27 January 2010
Monmouthshire County Council is asking people in Monmouth to suggest ways the space between the old and new Monnow bridges could be improved.
MCC would like to receive design concepts and creative suggestions as part of the ‘Gateway Monmouth’ scheme. Bob Greenland, cabinet member for regeneration, said, “Gateway Monmouth aims to improve the appearance of the southern gateway of Monmouth. We have great support from the Town Council, District Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and the Partnership Forum. We all want the area to be welcoming and sympathetic to the history of the town.
“Our recent proposal for a welcome centre with civic square in this space proved difficult to deliver. So we’re looking at the project again, and are inviting people in the community to suggest new or revised concepts.
“People in Monmouth have great pride in the town, so we think it’s important to hear their views. We want to hear from anyone – architect or school pupil, with sketches or detailed drawings. We hope to exhibit some of the submissions for the public to see in March.”
The deadline for responses is 12th March 2010. Information about the topics people may wish to think about before they start is at www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/gatewaymonmouth.
