SIR
I read with interest the letter from Colin Rodgers about tree planting on the Village Green where the Wye and the Monnow meet.
SIR,
I would like to thank Mr Bowers for his letter in last week’s Beacon which asked whether John Morgan’s haul of eight for 38 could be a record for Monmouth Cricket Club.
SIR,
My friend and I joined a tour of the Shire Hall a few weeks ago and what an interesting tour Mike Booth gave us.
SIR,
We wish to say a big thank you to the person who noticed our car keys which had been left in the car door on Saturday 21st August, hid the keys and put a note on the windscreen.
SIR
The sad decline of the quality of life in our rural communities over the last decade has been epitomised by the inexorable loss of many invaluable rural services such as pubs and village halls.
Agincourt Square was invaded yesterday (Tuesday 31st August) by a pair of giant wellies, as Environment Agency Wales raised awareness of flood risks in the Monmouth area.
SIR,
I am concerned at recent activities on the section of Chippenham Mead village green, which lies between the dual carriageway and the River Wye.
SIR,
On reading your cricket report of last week, quote: “Saran takes eight wickets for 40 in 14 overs”, it made me reflect on my playing days for Monmouth.
SIR,
I was saddened to read the anonymous letter in last week’s Beacon with reference to our One Stop Shop.
SIR,
I am wondering just how long the Union flag is to remain flying over Monmouth above our Shire Hall.
The Beacon has been given permission to reproduce a letter from Cadw explaining the recent works to the town’s ancient gatehouse.
Sir,
Touché Ms Buckland.
Sir,
I have just walked out of the One-Stop Shop in Monmouth.
SIR,
Through your newspaper, may I make this approach to your readers?
Do you have flair and show enthusiasm? Are you able to demonstrate initiative?
Do you have spare time on your hands that you could spend working for the charity The Royal British Legion, which is dedicated to helping serving and ex-serving men and women, and their dependents, who may be in need.
SIR,
Regarding a past long-winded letter in the Beacon, extolling the virtues of a certain hotel in Pembrokeshire.
Sir,
I had to smile at the letter about Bryn Morgans temperamental coaches.
SIR,
The local branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society would like to thank everyone in town on Saturday 7th August for their support of our flag day collection.
SIR,
As I was walking from my allotments into town, I noticed that there were a lot of polystyrene cartons, plastic tea cups and a lot more rubbish floating down the river and caught in the weeds.
SIR,
May I, through your pages, put a call out to any football fans of any age who would like to help us out on match days?
We are particularly looking for help getting the pitch ready, meeting and greeting officials of other clubs and referees and maybe even writing match reports, taking photos, updating the website and even being the good old fashioned kit man (or woman).
SIR,
I would like to say congratulations to the Festival Committee on staging another great festival in Monmouth.
